The purpose of this book is to bring the military family to life so that civilian human service providers can better understand the life conditions and experiences of current and future military families. Chapters in the book describe the challenges of military family life and highlight the resiliency that exists among individuals and families and within a unique institutionally-based community. NAVY SPOUSE’S GUIDE, by Laura Hall Stavridis. Book. 1998. This guide is designed to help Navy families successfully navigate the challenges of navy life. It describes the particulars of pay, living expenses, travel, children, emergencies, support groups, and social life, as well as medical, legal, and educational issues. Readers can learn what to expect with regard to deployment separation, homecomings, life overseas, shore duty, marital dynamics, and divorce. English.

This book extends the concept of "organization man" to focus on the "organization family". It reviews literature and research on work and military family dynamics by examining such issues as dual-career couples and single parents, the challenge of rebuilding military communities, and the influence of family factors on the workplace. TODAY’S MILITARY WIFE: MEETING THE CHALLENGES OF SERVICE LIFE, by Lydia Sloan Cline. Book. 1998. Spouses of both active-duty and Reserve personnel will find information on health care, socials and protocols, managing one’s own career, financial affairs, housing, moving, orders overseas, separation, and leaving the service. The book also contains lists of Internet resources and glossary of common terms. English.

WIVES AND WARRIORS: WOMEN AND THE MILITARY IN THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA, Laurie Weinstein and Christie C. White, Editors. Book. 1997. This book is about the women who serve the military as wives and those who serve as soldiers, sailors, and flyers. Comparing wives and warriors in the U.S. and Canada, it examines how the military in both countries construct gender to exclude women from being respected as equals to men. English.
