This book discusses how chronic violence affects a child’s growth, exploration, and psychological development. The authors show how teachers, psychologists, social workers and counselors can help "to restore the child to childhood.

FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHTS: TAKE A STAND AGAINST VIOLENCE, from MTV and the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. CD-ROM. 1999. This multimedia CD-ROM has sound bites and musical clips by various musicians. It also includes movie vignettes of different situations in which young people either allow a conflict to escalate into violence or work together to resolve the conflict peacefully.

THE FUTURE OF CHILDREN: DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND CHILDREN, Richard E. Behrman, M.D., Editor. Journal. 1999. This issue focuses on children who are exposed to domestic violence, defined as violence between adult intimate partners. The articles analyze the current research regarding the prevalence and effects of child exposure to domestic violence and other forms of violence, describe legislative and service system responses to families struggling with domestic violence, and suggest strategies for improving intervention and prevention programs. Includes an Executive Summary.

It demonstrates the need for focused and effective gang suppression and intervention programs and services, in conjunction with targeted prevention services.

Demonstrates how infancy is the stage during which the foundations for trust, empathy, conscience, and lifelong learning are laid down, or the predisposition to violent behavior is "hardwired" into the brain.

An activity book for school-age children about violence: what it is, how it feels, where it can happen, and what can children do about it. LOST BOYS: WHY OUR SONS TURN VIOLENT AND HOW WE CAN SAVE THEM, by James Garbarino, Ph.D. Book. 1999. The author shows why young men and boys have become increasingly vulnerable to violent crime and how lack of adult supervision and support poses a real and growing threat to our children’s basic safety.

VIOLENCE PREVENTION UPDATE, by Dr. Ronald G. Slaby.  Audio.  1994.  Self-study guide describes thinking process about potential conflict situations: recognizing that childrens’s thought patterns may put them at risk for involvement in violence, identifying 7 social experiences that effect violence, identifying 4 major areas of societal change needed to prevent violence and violence-related injuries.

WORKING TOGETHER TO STOP THE VIOLENCE: BLUEPRINT FOR SAFER COMMUNITIES, by National Crime Prevention Council.  Curriculum, 32 pages.  1994.  Materials for Crime Prevention Month, i.e. partnering with the community, creating a campaign, tackling an issue. With reproducible brochures, posters, articles designed to complement each section of the guide.

YOUTH AT RISK: CHANGING THE CULTURE OF VIOLENCE, by Dr. Ronald G. Slaby. Audio. 1999. Dr. Slaby discusses the question about the significant link proven by research between children viewing or participating in violent media (meaning television, movies, video games,) and violent behavior.
